motion control - electromateToronto, Ontario – June 18, 2021 – Electromate received a Foundation Award from the Association for High Technology Distribution (AHTD), recognizing the company’s 25 years of membership and support. This is the first year the Award has been given, honoring a small group of members out of approximately 300 automation solution providers and manufacturers.

The AHTD is dedicated to maximizing the productivity, growth, and enterprise opportunities of its high-tech automation solution provider and manufacturer members. These goals align with Electromate’s commitment to driving innovation, identifying emerging technologies and products, promoting the education of automation and motion control, and fostering its relationships with industry peers.

Motion Control – Miniature DC Servo Motor Controller, The ESCON 50/5 OEM Module!

Motion Control – Maxon Precision Motor’s newly released DC servo motor controller, the ESCON 50/5 OEM module. This mini OEM plug in module is a 4 quadrant Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) servo motor controller that can efficiently control permanent magnet brushed DC motors (PMDC motors) and Brushless DC servo motors (BLDC motors) containing hall effect sensors, with power levels up to 250 watts.

Maxon Logo

Fall River, MA — The OEM module features exceptional motor control properties and also contains very fast digital current control bandwidth capabilities enabling peak DC motor current (and therefore torque) control. Speed control of DC motors is devoid from drift whilst remaining dynamic. The DC motor speed can be controlled from 0 rpm up to 150,000 rpm. A completely configurable broad range of functions can be set to operate form the onboard analogue and digital inputs.

The DC motor speed can be set for open or closed loop with preset current/torque levels or the motor torque and direction can be set with analogue inputs. The inputs can be scaled and midpoints independently set with the “Easy to use Servo Controllers” PC Graphical User Interface (GUI) allowing fast implementation integrated into difficult motor control applications. Detailed design guides are supplied allowing easy integration onto the main equipment PCB. There is also an evaluation board for easy initial test and measurement.

This DC servo motor controller can also be used with an external potentiometer or the integrated on board potentiometer. For applications with existing PWM signals available this can also be used as a set value input. Full 4 quadrant control can be achieved with brushless motors using only hall sensors. A DC tacho or encoder can be optionally used with the DC motor for tighter feedback loops and digital inputs can be switched for activation in a particular motor direction of rotation.

Protection features are inbuilt on the motor controller against overcurrent, overtemp, undervoltage and overvoltage. Transients and short-circuits on the motor are also covered. The maximum allowable motor currents can be configured easily on the USB connection with the PC GUI.

When combined together, the maxon DCX, GPX and ENX form a high-precision, robust drive system ideal for any application from aerospace to medical to robotics. In fact anywhere that requires a compact, powerful, quiet and strong drive system. With just a few clicks of the mouse, it is possible to configure a powerful DCX drive with reliable and a fast delivery. In addition, detailed product data may be viewed immediately online and 3D CAD data for the configuration is available for downloading.

The small sized electronic motor controller has a 98% efficiency and can be used on common 12V, 24V and 48V DC systems making it suitable for process control, robotic and manufacturing equipment applications.

Comprehensive documentation and software are included with every motion control component delivery, and are also available for you to download from our website at www.maxonmotor.com.

New Motion Control Econo Servo Motion Controller with Ethernet from Servo2Go!

Motion Control Servo Controller with Ethernet from Servo2Go

Greenville, DE — Servo2Go.com has just added Galil Motion Control’s New Motion Control Econo Series Motion Controller with Ethernet, the DMC-41×3 Series, to its broad range of high performance cost effective Ethernet based Motion controllers.

The DMC-41×3 is the latest product in Galil’s Econo series which are high performance motion controllers at a lower price. The new product offers many enhancements compared to the prior Econo motor controllers including Ethernet 100Base-T, a USB 2.0 port, higher speed performance, larger program memory, analog inputs, and optically isolated I/O. “Compared to the older DMC-21×3 Econo Ethernet controller, the new DMC-41×3 controller offers many speed improvements and can accept encoder inputs up to 15 MHz and close-the-loop as fast as 62 microseconds,” said Lisa Wade, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Galil. “It also offers twice as much memory for user-programs and arrays.”

The DMC-41×3 operates stand-alone or interfaces to a PC with Ethernet 10/100Base-T or USB. An auxiliary RS232 port is also provided. The product is available in one through eight axis formats, and each axis is user-configurable for stepper or servo motor operation. The controller can be connected with external drives of any power range or with Galil’s multi-axis (500W per axis) servo drives or 60V, 3A microstepping drives. Galil drives install directly onto the DMC-41×3 controller, fitting inside the metal enclosure and saving space, cost and wiring.

Standard I/O of the DMC-41×3 controller includes 16 optically isolated inputs and outputs for the 1-4 axis models and 32 I/O for the 5-8 axis models. Eight analog inputs are provided in addition to optically isolated forward and reverse limits and a home input for each axis.

Other controller features include PID compensation with velocity and acceleration feedforward, memory for user programs, multitasking for simultaneously running up to eight programs, and I/O processing for synchronizing motion with external events. Modes of motion include point-to-point positioning, position tracking, jogging, linear and circular interpolation, contouring, electronic gearing, ECAM and PVT. The DMC-41×3 is available as a card-level product or packaged in a metal enclosure.

Servo2Go Motion Control DMC-41X3 Servo Controller

Like all Galil controllers the DMC-41×3 controllers are programmed with Galil’s intuitive, 2-letter command language, making them easy to program. GalilTools software simplifies system set-up with automated servo tuning and real-time display of motion information.

Pricing for the 4-axis DMC-4143 controller is $1,495 US in quantity 1 and $995 US/ea in quantity 100.
