motion control - electromate logoHamilton, New Jersey, August 2021 – POSITAL has received certificates of compliance for its family of kit encoders that feature BiSS C interfaces. These encoders are designed to be installed in motors or drives, providing the control system with position feedback to over single- or multi-turn operating ranges. “We have been enthusiastic supporters of open source, non-proprietary communications standards like BiSS,” comments Jörg Paulus, head of POSITAL’s European operations and a board member of the BiSS Association. “We are confident that by supporting the BiSS initiative and offering customers products that have been certified to comply with BiSS protocol standards, we will encourage further use of this versatile and cost-effective interface technology.”

The BiSS Association e.V. is a not-for-profit user group that promotes the development and use of the open source BiSS communications protocols suites. It has initiated a certification process for equipment that makes use of this interface technology. “BiSS protocols have gained significant acceptance in the world of machine-to-machine communications,” reports Paulus.

motion control - electromateToronto, Ontario – June 18, 2021 – Electromate received a Foundation Award from the Association for High Technology Distribution (AHTD), recognizing the company’s 25 years of membership and support. This is the first year the Award has been given, honoring a small group of members out of approximately 300 automation solution providers and manufacturers.

The AHTD is dedicated to maximizing the productivity, growth, and enterprise opportunities of its high-tech automation solution provider and manufacturer members. These goals align with Electromate’s commitment to driving innovation, identifying emerging technologies and products, promoting the education of automation and motion control, and fostering its relationships with industry peers.

Motion Control – New Profinet Interface for POSITAL’s Explosion-Proof Rotary Sensors

Posital Explosion Proof Rotary Sensors available from Electromate

Vaughan, Ontario, Canada – Motion Control Components – POSITAL has added an optional Profinet communications interface to its range of explosion-proof IXARC rotary encoders. These devices have been designed to comply with ATEX/IECEx directives for Category 3 electrical products and are suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 21 conditions (potential exposure to hazardous levels of explosive gases and dust concentrations). Areas of application for these encoders include oil and gas facilities, underground mines, chemical plants, milling operations and grain-handling facilities.

POSITAL’s ATEX-certified encoders are built with aluminum or Type 316L stainless steel housings that are designed to contain any electrical hot spots or sparking and to provide environmental protection ratings of up to IP67. Based on POSITAL’s well-proven optical measurement technology, these encoders can deliver up to 16-bit resolution in single-turn configurations or 14-bit resolution for multi-turn models. This technology ensures that position measurement integrity is maintained even if movement occurs when system power is unavailable. No backup batteries are needed, reducing maintenance costs. IXARC encoders can be ordered with a wide range of mounting options to ensure that they can be readily adapted to many kinds of equipment.
